We are open for business! COVID-19 Updates from DTB | Please Read Before Visiting DTB
Have standards evolved over the past 50 years? Yes, and not only in their goals, but in their complexity and the number of requirements to consider. Regulatory agencies have expanded their requirements, and S1000D is becoming the de facto standard – adding in a new layer to satisfy these already demanding work requirements.
How tough can it be? The process starts with a 2,000-page specification that is executed in a content database, which requires IT administration, and continues with Business Rules development, applicability, content integration, and publishing.
Dayton T. Brown, Inc. streamlines S1000D for its clients by breaking the standard down into manageable steps. We have prepared documentation and illustrations, enabled information systems, and performed analysis and reporting for a diverse customer base.
DTB can partner with your enterprise in order to effectively manage new, sustainment, or conversion S1000D projects. Using a variety of sources, we have developed successful information that is populated within an S1000D Common Source Database (CSDB).
We are ready to help our clients decipher the S1000D specification, as well as implement an S1000D compliant product and information architecture for their enterprise.
S1000D is an international specification for the acquisition and production of technical publications.
Originally, S1000D was primarily used for technical publications that supported the European aerospace community; the standard was widely used across Europe for several years. In the US, the S1000D standard continues to be adopted by a growing number of both military and commercial industry groups.
Organizations that analyze their content creation and management processes often find that adopting a technical content standard is the first step towards reducing inefficiencies. Content standards provide consistency and offer more opportunities for data sharing and reuse. Data reuse translates into cost savings and is proven with a tangible Return on Investment (ROI) over a project’s life cycle.
The S1000D specification touches on virtually every aspect of product logistics with tentacles to the S2000M and S3000L suite of standards:
DTB has made a significant commitment to the advancement of the S1000D specification. We are active members of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) and the Air Transport Association (ATA), which are key proponent and steering organizations that implement, sustain, and distribute S1000D to the commercial, aerospace, and defense communities.
Our membership allows us to contribute to the steering activities and specification releases of S1000D, as well as attend all public sessions of the S1000D steering committee. This membership also provides up-to-date information on the development of S1000D Business Rules and progress related to the adoption of this specification by DoD and commercial US and foreign organizations.
We serve as an active participant – sharing our insight with the S1000D community and providing valuable recommendations to our clients.
As specialists in the implementation of S1000D, DTB provides in-depth consulting and advisory services to analyze the steps needed in order to make your project successful and comply with the specification requirements.
Oftentimes, clients need help with establishing their systems, selecting the right Common Source Database (CSDB), or setting up Business Rules. We sift through the details and identify the major decisions so that you can focus on engineering, design, and manufacturing.
Our staff can help with the transition from legacy specifications into S1000D. In addition to performing a Needs Analysis, DTB can provide comprehensive training to acquaint your personnel with the intricacies of compliance, including:
Beyond S1000D training, we can serve as a support arm to handle your surge needs for specific S1000D tasks, such as S1000D project set-up, Business Rules, Data Module Requirements List (DMRL) development, authoring, illustration, publication module, Interactive Electronic Technical Manual/Interactive Electronic Technical Publication (IETM/IETP) preparation, and more.
