Rapid and Explosive Decompression Testing
MIL-STD-810, Method 511 • RTCA/DO-160, Section 9
Rapid Decompression Testing evaluates the aircraft equipment’s reaction to rapidly decreasing altitude pressure decompression changes in 15 seconds or less.
Explosive Decompression Testing evaluates the aircraft equipment’s reaction to rapidly decreasing altitude pressure decompression changes between 0.010 seconds and 0.100 seconds in the presence of fuel.
Dayton T. Brown, Inc. has several chambers that are capable of performing these types of tests:
- An 8 in. x 12 in. (dia.) chamber for smaller test items
- A 4 ft. x 12 ft. (dia.) chamber for larger test items
