Ice/Freezing Rain Testing
Ice/Freezing Rain Testing
MIL-STD-810, Method 521 • RTCA/DO-160, Section 24
Ice/Freezing Rain Testing can determine if your product will experience any issues in the field, such as the binding or interference of moving parts; reduction of air flow efficiency for cooling systems or filters; or reduction in the efficiency of aerodynamic lifting and control surfaces.
Dayton T. Brown, Inc. can perform Ice/Freezing Rain Testing, which evaluates multiple equipment types under test within rapidly changing temperatures, altitudes, and humidity levels. Ice thickness can range from 1/8 in. to 4 in. of ice.
We are able to perform different aspects of this type of testing:
- Direct Ice – walk-in chambers available for the application of freezing rain to cause an accumulation of ice on the test item
- Internal Ice – temperature/altitude/humidity chambers available that simulate a cyclic action, which enables the test item to “breathe in” humid air and then immediately lower the ambient temperature in order to cause internal freezing
DTB meets the following requirements for Ice/Freezing Rain Testing:
- MIL-STD-810, Method 521
- RTCA/DO-160, Section 24
